What we do
As your host, we would list your car on our Turo account. We would handle everything related to trip management. You would be responsible for keeping the car in good working condition, and we would basically handle the rest. We would:
Market the car
Stage a photoshoot for the car’s listing photos; Type up an engaging but realistic vehicle description; Optimize the vehicle’s settings for the highest search result rankings; Showcase the car on our website for increased visibility.
Stay on top of pricing
We will use our power host tools and past data to stay competitive and attract the most lucrative bookings.
Provide all-star guest communication
Send welcome info, check-in instructions and drop-off reminders to every guest; Communicate with guests on any questions/concerns and help them with any issues that come up; Manage any negative guest experiences, or active situations requiring us to physically step in (guest locked out, etc.); Remain available 24/7 for any guest questions or issues that arise.
Clean the vehicle between trips
Typical cleaning requires vacuuming, wiping down the interior, and washing the exterior. (We do require all-weather floor mats to make this process simpler.)
Refuel, deliver and pick up the vehicle to/from guest's location
We provide contactless check-in for all trips, and nearly all guests request delivery. We then arrange our own transportation back home. When the trip is over, we then arrange our own transportation to get to the car.
Deal with Turo Support and Claims as needed
Sometimes a guest needs help in a way we are not able to handle. We can work with support to ensure everyone’s needs are met. As we increase our hosting performance on Turo, we receive quicker and higher levels of customer support than standard.
Communicate with you and provide financial statements with payouts
Some owners might want to be more involved with the process, while others might prefer to hand us the keys and let the payments roll in. To formalize our partnership, we would both sign a contract that lines out our respective responsibilities, expectations, financials/compensation, and more.
Is this right for you?
Sure, owning a car that pays for itself (and then some) while someone else does the hosting work sounds like easy money. But there are some things to think about before diving in:
Insurance
Will you still be in good standing with your bank or car insurance if they knew your car was listed on Turo? While guests are in possession of the car during a Turo trip, they are covered under Turo’s insurance. But host activities outside of a trip’s start and end time (delivering the car, refueling, transporting for maintenance) are not covered under Turo’s insurance and would need to be covered by your personal car insurance policy as business activities.
Profits are seasonal
Juneau’s busy season runs between mid May to mid September. While profits during the busy season could be great, the longer off-season is much slower and it becomes more difficult to turn a profit during this time. Lots of changing market influences (fewer visitors, more cars available, prices drop, etc.) will determine how many bookings your car will get and how much money can be made. It may still be well worth it, but don’t count on high summer margins year-round.
It's not risk-free
How comfortable are you with strangers using (and possibly damaging) your car? Guests can be hard on borrowed property, and your car might see quicker wear and tear. Is your car easily serviced in Juneau? Having hosted hundreds of trips, we have dealt with our fair share of guest accidents. Major damage is relatively rare, and the guest is ultimately responsible for covering any damages, but it can cause quite a headache. As the host, we would communicate with the guest and assist as needed, but it is ultimately your vehicle and your risk to take when listing.
It costs money to make money
Will profits offset cost of your car payment, insurance, and upkeep? We can help to answer this question if you reach out to us. However, I would discourage anyone from buying a brand new car with the purpose of listing it on Turo. Newer cars mean higher payments. A slightly older car in great condition would have less overhead and still have roughly the same profit potential. Unless of course, you want that new car for yourself and are just looking for a bit of cushion in your wallet for the car payment. Which brings me to the last point…
Availability
Can you commit to setting aside only specific dates to use your car? We would request at least 80% calendar availability, preferably more in the summer. We do not cancel guest trips unless it is for safety reasons. If you would like to use the car you’ve listed for personal use, we would request you communicate those dates to us so we can block them out on the car’s calendar to avoid any trip conflicts. Please be aware that blocking out calendar dates will take away from potential bookings and make longer guest trips impossible. Because we run a fleet of cars, we do have minimums for trip length and time between bookings to allow us a window of time to prepare your car for its next trip.
If you can answer yes to all of the questions above, this might be a great fit! Please feel free to fill out an application below and we will be in touch. Alternatively, you can email us at jessi@greenalaskan.com. We look forward to working with you!
